What Did AVT Simulation Training Center Do at I/ITSEC 2019?
What is I/ITSEC?
The Interservice/ Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is the world’s largest modeling, simulation, and training event. Held near the beginning of December in Orlando, Florida, USA, I/ITSEC consists of peer-reviewed paper presentations, tutorials, special events, professional workshops, a commercial exhibit hall, a serious games competition, and STEM events for teachers and secondary students.
What does AVT Simulation do at I/ITSEC?
The Inter-service/ Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is a big deal for AVT as it is right here in our backyard of Orlando, Florida. Additionally, it is a show where AVT can present its new capabilities. While we presented our medical simulation, AR/VR capabilities, and our new Apache Gunnery Trainer (AGT), AVT also had a floor booth showing off our new AVT Simulation Training Center. Additionally, AVT can connect with attendees of I/ITSEC and explain how the AVT Simulation Training Center can help them grow in our industry.
Pioneer of the Year Award
The MS&T Magazine Pioneer of the Year award was awarded to Robert Abascal; founder and CEO of AVT Simulation. To explain, the characteristics which gained his award was for being someone who demonstrates outstanding and significant technical and social leadership. As well as recognizing his contribution to the defense Simulation and Training Community.

A Special Visit
The AVT Simulation Training Center booth at I/ITSEC 2019 was selected to be visited by U.S. Representative Stephanie Murphy of Florida’s 7th Congressional District. Furthermore, Rep Stephanie Murphy was able to talk for a few minutes with Robert Abascal and Kevin Vizzarri. They spoke regarding the AVT Simulation Training Center and show our offerings in our courses.
An Outstanding Feature
The I/ITSEC Show Daily is a news feature that goes out to the attendees every day. They feature news from the companies attending and stories of pressing items for I/ITSEC. Featured on the second day, AVT’s Apache Gunnery Trainer is a new product. It helps prepare the Apache front-seaters by managing the complexities of various buttons, switches, and knobs. The AGT also prepares students with the multiple multi-purpose display (MPD) pages.
“The good news is that [those capabilities] already exist next door in AVCATT, the Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer, which is the collective training device for Army Aviation. We’re the prime contractor that has developed AVCATT up to AH-64D 4.0. And all of those features minus the APKWS exist there. So, it’s a matter of being able to share that information with the AGT team. It’s a separate software baseline and some separate hardware. The hard part is done already. It’s just a matter of putting them onto the AGT.”

AGT and the Longbow
AVT is not looking to position the AGT as an alternative to the Longbow Crew Trainer, the high-fidelity flight simulator used by pilots to practice aircraft procedures and rehearse missions. However, the company was able to add AR/VR/MR simulations so that…
“real-world feeling scenarios and training can be experienced anywhere and at any time with just a headset and controller through the use of game-based tools such as Unity.”
The company is also planning to target international AH-64 operators. The sales pitch has become a lot easier with the AGT systems being fielded by the US Army.
