Extended Reality | What is it?
Extended Reality (XR)
The ‘X’ in XR does not just stand for Extended. Instead, it is a variable that can be interchanged. Some consider Cross Reality and Extended Reality to be interchangeable. They even have the same acronym (XR). Here, X is a variable that can be substituted to include all current and future forms of reality. But they do vary in their contextual meanings.

Extended reality is an umbrella term that refers to the spectrum of the extrema of the virtual continuum. XR includes all real and virtual combined environments. Augmented Reality, Augmented Virtuality, Virtual Reality, Cross Reality, and Mixed Reality. However, reality itself is not included. This is similar to Artificial Reality.
